My first impression after getting Badger Attack was - WOW! I've seen it on many pictures, but never "alive". I was impressed
and gladly surprised. BA looked so much better "in person" compared to the pictures. Very nice proportions, though for the medium sized blade like that, it is quite heavy. Well,
that's due to its thickness, what else would you expect from the knife that is Busse standard ¼" thick :).
As you can see on the picture, this is an old style Badger. By the way many complaints I've heard about Badger are same as about Mean Street - too thick
for the knife of this size. Well, at some point this might be true, however once again depends on the task. I really don't have enough field usage experience to argue about that,
but from my experience this extreme thickness it not much of a problem, or to be more correct, has never been a problem to me. Sure, I prefer to use my Nimravus for cardboard cutting or similar cutting applications, but the same task is doable with not much greater efforts with Badger or Mean Street. I did that for experimenting, yes with the thicker knife its a bit more difficult, but on the other hand in the survival situation less likely
that comfort and the ease of cutting something like a cardboard will be less important, while the knife strength and toughness will be much more important. So, my personal motto is
to use whichever knife seems to be more appropriate in the given situation ;) Well, provided that the knives are available ;).
General
- Now a few more things the Badger. It's a 4.5 inch long blade, .25" thick, drop point knife. Has enough belly to be a good cutter and slicer. Now, depending on your expectations it can be a chopper as well, though like I said depends how much do you expect from your 4.5 inch blade ;) Compared to my other 4.5 inchers this one is a very good performer in chopping, obviously far from Battle Mistress or SH E. Blade material, the same Busse proprietary INFI steel. Check Bladeforums for more info, plus I have some info in my other reviews of Busse knives. The sheath is made of Kydex, nothing complicated, simple and rugged, fits well, no rattling, though quite tough to withdraw the knife ;)Couple more things to be complete - there have been few runs of the Badger in different thickness, that was 5/16" and a different (than INFI) blade material, that is triple tampered A2, that usually used by Busse for this steel. And finally, there's a new version of the badger attack out there, Badger Attack E, as you have already guessed this is a Badger attack with a new, E type handle :). As soon as I get mine I'll post a review here, though as of this moment I am kindda skeptical about E handle on the smaller blades.
